If God did exist, what would you ask?
Over 2 million people in the UK and 10 million worldwide have attended an Alpha course. It's an opportunity to explore the meaning of life, running in tens of thousands of churches of all denominations across the world. Alpha is open to anyone, and takes place in a relaxed setting over ten thought-provoking weekly sessions, with a day away.
What is the Alpha Course?
No two Alphas look the same, but generally they have three key things in common: food, a talk and good conversation.
Sessions begin with coffee and cake - a chance to get to know others in the group. And the talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Usually around thirty minutes long, they explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity. They look at questions such as:
- Who is Jesus?
- How can we have faith?
- Why and how do I pray?
- How does God guide us?
Discussion is probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply talk about it in a small group. There's no obligation to say anything and there's nothing you can't say (seriously). It's an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.
How much does it cost?
There is no charge for attending the Alpha course, so just bring yourself.
